Dr. Ceil Lucas is Professor Emerita of Linguistics at Gallaudet University and editor of the journal Sign Language Studies. Dr. Joseph C. Hill is an assistant professor in the Department of American Sign Language and Interpreting Education and the director of the Deaf Studies Laboratory at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology. They collaborated on the recent book The Hidden Treasure of Black ASL: Its History and Structure and are co-associate producers of the documentary Signing Black in America, focusing on under-represented linguistic topics and the language of marginalized groups.
