Alan Barkema was senior vice president and director of research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and a former professor and head of the Agricultural Economics Department at Oklahoma State University. He founded Apical Economics, LLC, following his retirement in 2012 and continues to speak widely on developments in the economy and agriculture. A native of Alexander, Iowa, Barkema received a bachelor’s degree in farm operations as well as an MS and PhD in agricultural economics from Iowa State. He also holds an MS in plant genetics from Cornell University and is a graduate of the Executive Program at Stanford University. Carl and Marjory Hertz Lecture on Emerging Issues in Agriculture
